LWP Alert: Pakistan Working Population 132 m but employed only 56.92 m

Professor Hina Tayyaba, acting Vice Chancellor Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design, said Pakistan has working age population of 132 million, while employed labour force is only 56.92 million. "This is because the labor force participation rate in Pakistan is only 32.83 percent," she said, adding that this rate is almost constant since 2006. She said this young population with median age of 22 years could transform Pakistan into a vibrant economy if they are trained in skills. It will increase national productivity, besides providing the developed world with millions of skilled workers.
