To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist, that is all

This is a short essay based of Wilde's quotation hope you will find it interesting.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist, that is all.”(Oscar wilde)

Nowadays people kill themselves to eke out a living, improve their living conditions or keep their high standard of living, but they forget to live. A Scottish proverb says; "be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead." In fact, people don’t live, but they survive each day, for they are too busy, too tired, too stressed and too worried to really enjoy the pleasures of life. Everyone says; “time flies.” Thus, hours become days and days become years and years become a wasted precious life, and what for? Of course, for a better living.

It’s believed that to be successful in life and improve your conditions you have to work hard and never stop, because if you stop, another person will come and take your place. Besides, as the present society demands a lot of effort to survive and keep a decent living, pleasures are the first thing to be put off when wanting to achieve any goal. However, if you postpone your enjoyment until you have time, money and/or proper conditions arrive that time may never come or come too late and your priceless life will be wasted.

The strains of modern life force people to live in such a hurry that they don’t even have time to enjoy the beautiful world we live in. People forget to take delight of the bonny things nature provides us. It costs no money and takes almost no time. "This world, after all our science and sciences, is still a miracle; wonderful, magical and more, to whosoever will think of it." - Thomas Carlyle.
Being ambitious, human beings always want more than what they actually need or would really enjoy like a collector. People accumulate things for others to enjoy them, for they value their lives by the things they possess, which is a quite sad way of appreciating life since they’ll never be satisfied. “The true perfection of man lies not in what man has, but in what man is.” Oscar Wilde.
If people at bedtime review of the day ask themselves how much they delight the day, they’ll probably conclude that they miss another chance of feeling alive. Responsibilities are absolutely necessary as well as a job and material things, but life goes beyond that. How many people at their deathbed regret for not taking the opportunities they had to live, to have adventures and experiences? There is nothing better than to look back your past and be able to say; “I lived and lived very well. I made mistakes and I learned from them.”

Additionally, there is the other group of people who have all the time of the world to have a life, but they prefer to mind other’s business. Gossip people’s lives are so empty, so tasteless, and so dead that they just exist and, what is worse, they don’t know how to live.

In conclusion, our time is not eternal. Each second, minute, hour, day we waste is gone forever. To overwork for something you won’t enjoy is as silly as having the opportunity to live but to prefer to exist in order to talk about the ones who do live. Once we value more what we are than what we have, maybe our goals would change and feel what to be alive means. Thus, after feeling really alive, our life will be neither empty nor wasted but full of precious experiences.

Hiking vs Trekking

We've often heard the terms hiking and trekking used interchangeably. We all know they're both outdoor recreational activities. But are they really the same?
Hiking is an outdoor activity of walking in beautiful natural environments on pre-charted paths called hiking trails. There are day hikes and overnight hikes.
Trekking is a long journey be undertaken on foot in areas where there are usually no means of transport available. Trekking is not necessarily mountaineering; it is walking for a number of days, usually on uncharted paths, in challenging environments which are likely to be hilly or mountainous.
Contents: Hiking vs Trekking
Equipment
Depending on the weather and if the hike is for a day, a few hours or overnight, the equipment one carries varies. For a simple hike, good hiking shoes (preferably water proof), weather-appropriate clothing (hat, sunscreen, and waterproof jacket), a trail map, compass, sunscreen, water, food and basic medical kit can be carried. The weight and bulk limit the amount of equipment that one can carry. The Leave No Trace policy also requires that equipment have multiple or alternative uses. Apart from what one would take on a day hike, overnight hikes and treks require a backpack, tent and sleeping bag for camping, fire lighting tools either flint or matches, food, water, survival kit, water purifying tablets, a compass, flashlight, map, insect repellent, A trekking pole or hiking pole which look like ski poles can be used in challenging treks can also be used. Equipment carried is to mitigate the dangers associated with hiking and trekking such as getting lost, dehydration or hypothermia, sunburn or frostbite, animal attacks, internal injuries like ankle sprains.
Trekking requires all of the above and a good supply of food.
Terminology Around the World
Hiking is known by many names over the world. What is known as hiking in the U.S and Britain is called tramping in New Zealand, and bush-walking in Australia. Bushwhacking is a term used specifically for hiking through dense forest where vegetation needs to be whacked for slashed with a machete in order to advance. Thru-hiking is a term associated with long end-to-end hiking (hiking a trail completely in sequence in its entirety) on a trail specifically, the Appalachian Trail.
Location of Trails
People usually go hiking in places of natural beauty. Hiking trails usually guide people through these areas which may be signposted so people do not lose their way. Whereas while trekking, the path is usually not marked and may not be previously charted. Trekking can take place in areas of great natural beauty but unlike hiking, not exclusively so. Trekking can also be a means of necessity in places where there is no vehicular transport. Hiking is a popular holiday experience especially in Europe, New Zealand, Chile, Costa Rica and Hawaii. Trekking is popular is the Himalayan foothills in Nepal, Bhutan and India and in the Andes in South America.
Environmental Impact
Hikers and trekkers follow a Leave No Trace policy to reduce the impact of their presence on the natural environment. A number of hikers over years on the same trail can cause unexpected damage on the environment such as wood depletion, wood fires. Fecal matter and non-biodegradable materials can contaminate the watershed. Some hikers have complained that pole use leaves a visible impact on the surrounding trail, poking visible holes in the ground and damaging adjacent vegetation. The most common complaint is that the carbide tips leave visible white scratches on rock, and make scraping sounds.

TRAINING OF SCHOOL VAN DRIVERS – A SIGNIFICANT ELEMENT OF ROAD SAFETY

TRAINING OF SCHOOL VAN DRIVERS – A SIGNIFICANT ELEMENT OF

ROAD SAFETY

Population and vehicle ownership are the two important factors that are directly dependent on the increase in the victims of road traffic accidents or severe crashes. There are different types of road users exist in the traffic stream of Karachi. It includes Rider, Pillion rider, Passengers, Pedestrians, Drivers, Push carts or animal driver vehicles etc. Apart from that diversified nature of drivers and riders are available that makes the situation more hazardous and unpredictable. Unfortunately, the risk of driver crashes are higher enough comparatively to the other type of road users, although it is dependent on the number of vehicles increasing every day in the metropolitan city, Karachi. The traffic crashes are more prominent to the face due to the number of causes including over speeding, overtaking, negligence of drivers and riders, improper road and infrastructure facilities provided, absence of infrastructure facilities, wrong way issues, novice and overage driving, vehicle fault, medical illness etc. All the contributory factors come under the head of three broader divisions namely Human, Road/ Infrastructure and Vehicle contributory factors. It may leads to the lack of two-prong phenomenon of traffic safety which resembles as inappropriate enforcement actions implicated and drivers training and management issues. In this era, there is the emendable need of training of drivers for a specific road user group starting with the severity of particular type. By having the contrast situation, now a days, the vulnerable road user group is the school van drivers, as timely injuries and fatalities are receiving in the couple of months.

Social Research and Development Organization (SRDO) working efficiently in the area of Traffic Management and Road Safety is capable enough to impart in the training programs of school van drivers. As reported by the President SRDO, Mr. Abdul Qadir Bullo, during two months three serious crashes are reported related to school van drivers, included two severe injuries and one on spot fatal accident. According to him, training programs should mandatory not only for school van drivers but for all type of road users. The organization is primarily working in the launch of seminars, as first drivers training program in Pakistan has been organized for various transporters and logistics on 26th September, 2011 while the centre is planning to introduce more training sessions for specific organizations in the future. The respective program was designed in a manner to produce some fruitful and recommended results at the end.

It is the usual practice that the school van drivers are in hurry and not taken into considerations the facts of driving controls. The thing which is more susceptive to the driving is the control on the over loading which in reaction provides the centrifugal force on the road geometry (curve effect, sharp turnings or at Junctions) and ultimately worsening the situation. There should be proper check and balance management and monitoring system by the concerned enforcement agencies. At the preliminary stage of issuance of license, proper training of school van drivers should be the mandatory part that would ultimately correspond to the safe and sound traffic management system of Karachi. It is quite evident that school van driver bears the high responsibility of the assets of our country on his shoulders and they can assure their responsibility in lieu of traffic safety mechanism.
