A man's son would come home late every night. Whenever the father asked, "Son, where were you?" the son would quickly respond, "I was with a friend." One day, when the son came home very late, the father said, "Son, today we want to meet your friend."
The son immediately replied, "Dad, at this hour? It's two in the morning. Let's go tomorrow."
"No, we will go now. We should meet your friend," the father insisted.
When they reached the friend's house and knocked on the door, there was no response for a long time. Finally, an elderly man, who was the friend's father, appeared on the balcony and asked why they had come. The boy said that he had come to meet his friend. The elderly man responded, "At this hour? But he is sleeping."
"Uncle, please wake him up; I have something important to discuss with him," the boy pleaded.
Even after a long time, the response remained the same: "Come back in the morning, let him sleep now."
It became a matter of pride for the boy, so he mentioned it was an emergency and an important matter. But not only did his friend refuse to come out, but he also didn’t even care to check or look out.
The father then said to his son, "Now let's go to one of my friends." Just before the morning prayer, they reached his friend’s house and knocked on the door, but there was no response. Eventually, the father loudly announced his name, "It's me, Allah Dino." Still, there was no movement. A victorious smile appeared on the son's face, but at that moment, they heard the sound of a cane tapping on the ground, and then the sound of the door being unlatched.
An elderly man came out, hugged his friend, and said, "My friend, I apologize for the delay. When you knocked on my door after 27 years late at night, I thought you might be in trouble, so I gathered some money thinking you might need it, and woke up my son in case you needed someone. Now, tell me what you need?"
Hearing this, tears welled up in the son's eyes as he realized how his father had always advised him, "A true friend is not the one who is just with you during sleepless nights, but the one who comes to fulfill the duty of friendship with just one call."
Even today, many young people upset their parents over such friendships and act arrogantly in front of their fathers.
